NGC 246, Skull Nebula

NGC 246 is a planetary nebula visible in the constellation of the Whale.
Also known as the Skull Nebula, it is quite large (4.6 'x 4.1') and bright: the disc is irregular and shows traces of a ring structure. 

The central star is 12th magnitude and the actual diameter of the nebula it created is about 6 light-years. 

The distance from the Sun is estimated at 2100 light-years.
